Follow-up Comment #18, bug #62847 (project octave):

I build dev Octave from default more or less regularly, that's where I hit the
issue.

7.1.90 didn't "work" (w.r.t. this bug report)

6.3.0 because the OP in bug #62576 mentioned his scripts were working with
6.4.0. But reading more closely I see that for him it changed adversely in
7.1.0 which works fine for me. Right, saves me some time :-)

>> There are two things I currently don't understand: Why does the name of the
share (`Total`) disappear in the output of `which`? Where does the `$` sign in
that output come from?
Yeah, good questions :-) That's really beyond me. The company (actually
'authority', it's semi-gov) is slowly shifting its IT resources to the cloud
(Sharepoint, Azure) so probably there's quite a bit of reshuffling going on
behind the scenes.
OTOH I have reminiscence of this ('Total' being replaced / dropped) having
been the case for many many years, because I spotted that too when I had to
renew my drive mappings each and every time our desktop PCs, and later on
virtual PCs, got 'rolled out' anew (which now morphed into a yearly tradition
in the busy days before Xmas. sigh).
Until recently Octave coped well with it.

Anyway I have little time for experiments. I'll help but maybe at a lower pace
- after all I have workarounds.
