Correction: 
7.1.90 DOES work fine.
Apologies Markus, I mixed up the by now tens of shortcuts on my desktop. (Time
to clean up there.)

So that is consistent with your initial thought cf. comment #8.

As to shared folders with a trailing '$' in their names on remote servers, I'd
have to try, no idea if that works on our company network. Later tomorrow I'll
hopefully have time for that.
