Follow-up Comment #15, bug #62648 (project octave):

I agree we shouldn't be duplicating the file. It was only one way to get it
working, not the best way. The limiting factor was my own knowledge of Perl
did not extend to solving "strict subs" errors, so I fell back on bash/awk. If
someone knows how to solve that within Perl, the patterns (pattern1/2/3) have
been written for each version and can be substituted in.
