I think this is a good idea, i.e., a common vocabulary.

I prefer directory/directories (more UNIX way of thinking).

Do the changes need to take place in the C++ code and the strings themselves? 
Or is the change in the translation file such that the original string
"directory" is not translated to "folder"?

In English these two colors are entirely different.  The RGB code given is
[255, 0, 255] which is magenta.  I will update the original string which is
just wrong in this case.

> accelerator -> shortcut

I think "shortcut" is probably more understandable for most users.
