That's too bad--it would definitely make it easier to support a common 
menu on all of the pages. Even though the look and feel can be 
maintained with CSS, maybe it would make sense to keep some kind of 
make-oriented scheme for re-generating the pages.  A couple of months 
ago I started work on a CSS-based update to the octave home page. I put 
the result here for anyone interested:
