At what point during the build does this happen?  I don't think any
part of Octave should be linking directly with libltdl.

I should have copied more of the output text.  This happened near
the end of "make"  The command started with:
libtool: link:   then a list of options and files to link.  The list included
/usr/lib/libltdl.la.

I will try to capture more complete output.
