Sorry, I'd forgotten about star's efforts in this area. Does star
address all the issues he mentioned? For example, what does it do for
ACLs on a Linux box?

Lots of people send me 8-bit mail successfully. I'll write to you
separately about this problem, as we needn't bother others about this.
