I have found that some of the documented command line configuration options

These options are from a former version. You say they are "documented", but I am
fairly sure all reference has been deleted from the manual for 0.7.5 -- if not, then
that is a bug, and should be reported as such.
I receive an error message saying: unrecognized option when trying to use
these. However others are working. For example '--algorithm'.
You can easily get a summary of the supported options in the version you are using by
typing "pspp --help".
The synatx file parses correctly if I omit all command line options.
That's good. The idea is that the most common usage should work without any options.
The options exist for people who want to do something unusual.
I hope this helps.
