It's hard for me to understand why this would happen if indeed
LD_RUN_PATH, -L, and -R are used correctly at link time.  I don't
have any actual experience building dynamic libraries on Solaris,
so I can't say what the common problems are.

I imagine that some of this has changed in the latest PSPP
version.  Have you tried one of the recent 0.7.x snapshots?
