Another alternative is to use the flatpak that I am experimenting with:

Hi Roy,

I've tried creating an "AppImage" of PSPP 1.4.1

Can you please give it a test by downloading from here: https://cloud.acspri.org.au/s/jbW9GtMSGmjLgW4

Then make the downloaded file executable and try running it.

Hi Matthias

I really appreciate the effort you have put into this. I tried the .deb package and get this error message. There does seem to be some incompatibility with the newest version of Mint. I am very sadd about it because PSPP is such a good package.

Hi Roy

I do not know which version of Mint you have. If it is older: up to Ubuntu 17.04 you might install it by adding Adams PPA

PSPP is included in the debian repositories.  The other operating systems you mentioned
are based upon debian, so I presume they are present there too.

     Hi Ben

Could somebody get Debian, Ubuntu and/or Mint to put PSPP back on their
     repositories please?
I have tried to install the pspp tarball but it needs so many more packages
and I don't feel confident in installing them as well.

     Many thanks
