And to expand on that, the PSPP developers
release source code and each platform (Windows, Mac,
each Linux distro) then needs a package maintainer
to compile the software and "package" it to make it
available for end-users.
(To be clear, end-users are also allowed, even
encouraged, to compile the software themselves, but
that is beyond the technical capabilities of the
average computer user.)
So virtually 100% of the users of PSPP are using
a version made by someone else.
Not that it's a bad idea to find out who made it.
You are trusting that the compiled code is sound. I
can vouch for having installed and used the Windows
version of PSPP, but obviously your mileage may
vary.
