How about we just make a C-t timeout the way stuff like C-ta or C-tw does?
Personally I've been hitting C-tt when I realize I don't want to enter a
command,
then the same again to get back to my window. On the keyboard it looks more
like this... C-t<ohshit>ttt<whew,safe>
