[RP] When Unmanage Doesn't Work

Using an image viewer called xv, I have tried everything under the
sun to get it quit blowing up every image until it fills the screen,
many of them distorted by the process.

It tries, but the proper image just flickers on the screen and then
is blown up to fill the screen.

It's got to be ratpoison that's dong this.

ratpoison -c unmanage reports "xv", as configured in my .ratpoisonrc:

unmanage xv

Any idea what this?
