            Since address@hidden is indeed an alias for you, you can use it.
    Please create a user chet1 on Savannah and send us (address@hidden)
    so that we can s/chet1/chet/ afterwards. This was done to prevent someone
    else to re-use your account name. 

Creating these aliases to "protect" existing names can be a useful way
of helping GNU maintainers, but only if you tell them what you are
doing for them.

Perhaps the error message saying that "this name is in use as an
alias" needs to say something about this, and give specific advice on
what someone should do if he is already using the same name on the GNU
servers.
