I see that Ian has already modified 
/webcvs/l4hurd/CVSROOT, to which he has access and then 
tried to use /webcvs/CVSROOT to which he has no access
and he should not use.

Please notice that syncmail should not be used the way it 
is explained in the Savannah Admin Manual (it is my fault 
not having erased that section from the manual yet). 
Please remove syncmail and use instead "commit_prep" and 
"log_accum", as explained in the same manual.

It seems that there's actualy a CVSROOT common to all the
www CVS.

But I dont understand why do you need write access here.
