Hi,

Due to licensing problem with PHP4, it was said to do the promotion of
PHP3 (GPLed), incitate to maintain a fork.

In this way, Savannah ask developers that choose PHP as programming
language to get their software PHP3 compatible.

Now, at http://www.gnu.org/licenses/license-list.html
We can read
"The PHP License, Version 3.0.
This license is used by PHP4. It is a non-copyleft free software
license which is incompatible with the GNU GPL.

We recommend that you not use this license for anything except PHP
add-ons."

This is accordingly to
http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=pear-dev&m=103134676127239&w=2

But what was inacceptable before, cause of the php3 fork, and is
acceptable now?

Also, saying "We recommend that you not use this license for anything
except PHP add-ons." lead people to think that this license is
recommended for PHP-coded software. Is it the idea?

About Savannah. We used to wrote something like
"Could you please try to get your project working
with php3 ? The php4 license has restrictions that forbids
distribution of modified source packages. It is important
to use php3 so that php people know that the Free Software
community is embarassed by this restriction."
for projects registered with PHP4 as requirement.

And now?
