A package was submitted to savannah.nongnu.org
This mail was sent to address@hidden, address@hidden
budian <address@hidden> described the package as follows:
License: gpl
Other License:
Package: QLinux - a Qemu based Linux distro
System name: qlinux
Type: non-GNU
Description:
Qlinux is a linux distribution that runs initially on the well-known CPU
emulator Qemu, but later the real x86 machines will be supported as well.
Qlinux is installed completely thru the Internet, no cdrom is reqired. Qlinux
is Linux-From-Scratch-based, it does not depend on another distro. Qlinux
builds the system on the fly without any user intervention, so it is suitable
for the end users or the dummy ones. The project won't take up too much room,
because it does not include any packages. The programs are mainly shell
scripts. All packages are built dynamically with source code from the
initial-release-site of each software. By installing qlinux, the users always
get synchronized/updated with the Internet. Cool enough?
The initial (unfinished) work can be found here:
ftp://ftp.linuxeden.com/tinybit/qlinux_setup.img
ftp://ftp.linuxeden.com/tinybit/qlinux_stage2.tar.bz2
For a test run, do as follows:
dd of=hd.img bs=1024 count=0 seek=1000000
qemu -fda qlinux_setup.img -hda hd.img -boot a
You will get a shell prompt and do what you want manually. The shell scripts
are inside the initrd.gz which is further inside qlinux_setup.img and/or
qlinux_stage2.tar.bz2
Other Software Required:
busybox, uclibc, udhcp, GNU/Linux, grub_for_dos. Note: grub_for_dos is GPLed
and hosted at http://newdos.yginfo.net/grubdos.htm
Other Comments:
When runing, this software may download a compiler environment from the
Internet. Though not yet decided, it seems the following one should be ok:
http://uclibc.org/downloads/root_fs_i386.bz2
