We recommend for quality, you can put in another file (perhaps in the README) that explains the GPL, and what it stands for, and of course, a link to the Free Software Foundation (http://www.fsf.org). The README can also contain any other information you wish it to.Your latest tar-ball from your site corrects the COPYING and the restriction above, but you are missing the notices in the documentation. The GNU Project Manaiters Guide is a good source to learn how to apply the GPL to your project: http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Legal-Matters.html). Once you made these changes, I'll approve your project for Savannah.
Michael

PS. Sorry for delay, I happen to get sick, and didn't get a chance to send this until now

Dear Michael,

I am sorry my late contact.
Please, consider my project inside Savannah. I agree with all
your 2 points:

1- include COPYING
2- Do not require to cite the original project.

Please, let me know how can I emphasize that the very GPL license
states that people using my code should maintaing the original copyright, without adding "another" restriction. I only want the brazilians to know better the GPL license, because some of them (here and all over the world), think that a GPL software is like a nobody-house you can do everything... I hope you have some "phrase" you could teach me to write in the beggining
of the code.

Thank you very much,
Ruben.

PS. The zipped file in the site:
http://www.geocities.com/pag_sax/xadreco/
has already the COPYING, and a version
COPIANDO.GPL-pt_BR.txt for brazilians.

contact me ASAP. I'm going to remove your project registration if I
don't hear back from you, but you can reregister it after that point.

I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah.

The only problems I noted is that you need a file called COPYING, with
an
approved version of the GPL in it (you can include the Brazilian
unofficial GPL license in a separate file if you wish).

The request to require that citing the original project does break the
GPL, since it adds additional restrictions, and thus not
GPL-compatiable. However, the GPL states that you must maintain that original Copyright notices, so that means the project name will always
be
cited.

If you are willing to make the changes mentioned above, please provide us with an URL to an updated tarball of your project. Upon review, we
will reconsider your project for inclusion in Savannah.

Your project is not part of the GNU project, so we cannot accept its
current type. We want to maintain the distinction between 'GNU' and
'non-GNU' projects. If your project is approved for inclusion into
Savannah, we will set it's type to 'non-GNU'.

If your project is accepted into the GNU project you may change its
type. You can do this by asking us.

A package was submitted to savannah.gnu.org
This mail was sent to address@hidden,
address@hidden

Ruben Carlo Benante <address@hidden> described the package
as follows:
License: gpl
Other License:
Package: Xadreco, the chess engine.
System name: xadreco
Type: GNU

Description:
Xadreco, the chess engine.

The home page, and source code can be dowloaded at:
http://www.geocities.com/pag_sax/xadreco/

Xadreco is a chess engine that run on your machine and play a game
against you,
and it can be used with the front-end XBoard
(http://www.tim-mann.org/xboard.html)

The project should improve the tactical/strategical play of the
engine, include
an opening book and ending book, and what else could lead to a very
strong
chess engine playing.

Also, the engine should be used to help you analyze your games, and
it should
understand all the XBoard/Winboard communication protocol.

It is one goal of the project to use standard C language, that could
compile on
Unix or 32-bit Windows, and so, can be used with XBoard for Unix or
WinBoard
for Windows.

Other Software Required:
The source code can be compiled using gcc, with the GNU-DEV-C++
compiler
(http://www.bloodshed.net/).
It was wrote in C language, and the includes used are:
#include <conio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <string.h>
#include <stdio.h>

Other Comments:
I would like to ask if it was correct to say, as I said in the
source-code, and
if is still a GNU/GPL licence, when I put the sentence:

//If you redistribute it and/or modify it, you need to
//cite the original source-code and author name:
//Ruben Carlo Benante.
//email: address@hidden
//web page: http://www.geocities.com/pag_sax/xadreco/
//address:
//Federal University of Pernambuco
//Center of Computer Science
//PostGrad Room 7-1
//PO Box 7851
//Zip Code 50670-970
//Recife, PE, Brazil
//FAX: +55 (81) 2126-8438
//PHONE: +55 (81) 2126-8430  x.4067

I know that the main objective of the GPL is to protect the freedom
of the
programmer, and that the GPL is not against the author. So, I believe
that only
to cite the authors name will give some credit to who invented the
source code,
even if it was modified. Thank you very much. Ruben.
