[Texmacs-dev] Type1 Fonts and TeXmacs

Can TeXmacs be modified to use Adobe AFM/PFM/PFB format Type 1 fonts?

I am thinking about direct PDF file generation.  We could use the FreeType 
library to render anti-aliased Type1 fonts.  The only question is:  Does the 
type 1 format font metric file have the same amount of information regarding 
kerning, ligatures etc as the tfm file?  Does TeXmacs use any kind of 
information stored in the tfm file that is not available in Type 1 font 
metric files?

One could use the computer modern type 1 format font files available from 
ctan.

I would like to see TeXmacs be compilable where one would choose if the 
desired input/output is TFM/PostScript or Type1/PDF.
