I can't see anything useful, there was about a minute and a half delay between Connected and the OK banner on this one.

Nov 11 12:21:00 mail1 tpop3d[21066]: connection_sendresponse: client [8]x.x.x.x/domain.com: sent `+OK <address@hidden>'
Nov 11 12:21:01 mail1 tpop3d[21066]: listeners_post_select: client [8]x.x.x.x/domain.com: connected to local address z.z.z.z:110
Nov 11 12:21:31 mail1 tpop3d[21066]: connection_parsecommand: client [8]x.x.x.x/domain.com: received `quit'
Nov 11 12:21:31 mail1 tpop3d[21066]: connection_sendresponse: client [8]x.x.x.x/domain.com: sent `+OK Done.'
Nov 11 12:21:31 mail1 tpop3d[21066]: connections_post_select: client [8]x.x.x.x/domain.com: disconnected; 37/116 bytes read/written

I did notice of 119 connections to port 110 using netstat 89 of them are in TIME_WAIT status.

Thanks,
Larry

Is there anything useful in the logs when these delays
occur? Make sure you switch on -v first.
