You are sure this delay is nothing to do with your webmail application?
As I pointed out to you off list, tpop3d might _not_ have anything to
do with this delay.
Try to compare the responses when you use your webmail app and when you
do a "timed" direct connection to port 110:

time telnet pop.server.name 110
user some_user
pass your_pass


Here is a sample of what I got on my server, running tpop3d-1.5.3,
servicing thousands of users:

See? I believe those 6seconds have something to do with my typing speed
;)
