How can one person be so stupid? All those problems with deleted events
that remained registered with the event handler! And all it takes to
solve them is a simple

    event_handler::remove_event (this)

in the event's destructor!

That should fix the mysterious crash you experience. And it also fixes a
number of problems I am facing right now. It won't change anything with
the NPCs unwilling to move however.
