That was my point of departure.

Thank you.  That needs to be explored (in the Manual?).

In my environment, en_GB is the preferred option.  However, since
mailing my query, I have discovered that I have an XWindows problem, not
an aspell problem ("lang current" defaults to en_GB in a console
environment - as directed by a LANG entry in .bash_profile).
