I committed a fix for the $EXEEXT problem in

I'm not entirely sure that I got everything right, though, because I have no
way to test the macros. Could you please verify that they still work the way
you're expecting?

I've also put all authors of the macros that were touched on Cc to keep
eveyone informed about what's going on.
