I think the real bonus is to do programming on a macro, and then just
update the macro description above the macro and know that the updated
description will be included in the doc the next time it is generated.
The improved locality of the doc is the gain.  That's why javadoc and
Doxygen, etc. are such great successes.

Multi-mode files have never been a problem for me.  It's not good for
emacs modes, of course, but I'm not using emacs :)
