I would just note that that rate is high but doable for 10M ethernet,
and that there was a comparable fibre ring technology around before
100M and 1G ethernet superseded it. Over short distances with the given
constraints it should work without the fibre connection.
Telecomms fibre runs a lot faster.
So it is possible, but may need expensive hardware.
