I hope this all goes away soon. I have already started to move the Java 
code to Aldor. Unfortunately, I have not made progress since several 
weeks. :-(

Anyway, part of the code of Peter Broadbery is included in the Axiom 
distribution. I actually don't understand why src_aldor2 is not in 
axiom--main--1. There is no need to connect it with the MAKE of axiom. 
But if people have installed JAVA and have installed Aldor, they would 
just need to say 'make aldor-interface' or something the like. And the 
JAVA process would start to produce the dependency graph and then run 
aldor to produce libaxiom.al. That would be much simpler.

Once we have that more people would try to use Aldor and of course we 
would try to remove any dependency on JAVA in a future release.

So what do you think about including (an extracted) src_aldor2.tgz in 
--patch-50? If you want you can explicitly state that this part is to 
use at one's own risk. But it would be a bit simpler than the current 
steps at http://wiki.axiom-developer.org/AldorForAxiom
