Yes, I tried the SF *BSD host and the build stopped; so I moved on
something else :-)

 And many
| other ports
| depend on it. So Axiom should just require that port as well.

Great!

The configure in build-improvements checks for gmake, but it does not
enforce it.  It probably should.
