As you know Ubuntu is based upon Debian, so all the things you'd love in
Debian (such as package management system) is there in Ubuntu as well.

The only problem is that it might not be as stable as Debian is.
Ubuntu, when started, was a fork from Debian sid, and that might not be
a good choice for a production server.  I find it a great desktop
system, which contains some bleeding edge packages, but for a server,
I'd stick with Debian Sarge.

That said, the only problem with Debian (IMHO) is its slow release
frequency.  Of coure you'd get security updates, but no new features,
unless you decide to go with Etch or Sid.  However, usual servers might
not need that much of a bleeding edge setup.  And Sarge is recently
released, so the current packages in the stable branch of Debian are not
*that* old, like Woody's were.
