The problem is that using the latest version of all the scripts
from automake sounds wrong if you do not use the last version of
automake.

It is certainly OK to do so with scripts that are installed by
automake but not maintained in automake (i.e., config.guess,
config.sub).  Actually I tend to think it should not be
automake's job to install these, but it's not clear how to do
else yet.

But generally the other scripts should match the automake
version because they are part of the build machinery setup by
Automake for a package.  I do not think it is wise to waste
energy ensuring that such script work with all past versions of
automake.
