I would agree that incorporating both bitmapped and vector font
formats in the same user interface will be the most difficult task,
probably requiring a(n) (auto-)tracer, and digitizing support, as
well as rendering of vector fonts to bitmaps. Personally, I am not
too sure it is worth the effort to combine both in the same
application. GOTE is trying to be a decent vector font editor, and
GFE will soon become a good bitmap font editor with the potential to
become an excellent bitmap font editor.

The challenge I am facing now, while I am doing the GEM FNT font
support, is how to support different capabilities in font formats.
The GEM FNT format has a few (not many) capabilities which have no
equivalent in BDF format, and I am wondering how to manage this.
Ideally GFE in my opinion would work from a 'superfont' format which
has all that could ever go into a bitmap font, with some info going
lost on 'export' to less capable format, and the other way around on
import. Possibly this 'superfont' format could be something we define
in XML, but for the moment I will probably add some of the more
interesting parameters in the BDF properties section so that BDF is
at least the more powerful format that may maintain most of the info.
