Ok, we're getting closer.
- I took a fresh copy of the 21.2 sources, compiled them with gcc -g,
  and confirmed that print does not print.
- then I moved the 21.2 unexelf.c aside, copied the 21.1 version into
  the 21.2 src tree and recompiled: this works: emacs now prints.
- I reinstalled the 21.2 unexelf.c version, recompiled again: no printing.

So it seems the changes in unexelf.c between 21.1 and 21.2 trigger this
problem.
