Maybe a long shot, but, does your system use the original SSL libraries,
or did you install OpenSSL from ports with OPENSSL_OVERWRITE_BASE=YES
set in /etc/make.conf ?
The original SSL won't work with GNUstep. If you do not want to override
it, you must configure -base with --disable-openssl.
