Why not use an actual launcher?  right click->add launcher->location.  Type  
in "lilypond.org".  Double-clicking the icon will bring up a web browser  
pointing to lilypond.org.

Maybe use one icon for lilypond.org, and another for the "quick start"  
chapter?

Anyway, don't screw with the home page or scripts.  If you want to get  
fancier, then make sure that you have git-cl on there, and make a ~/bin/  
for users.  That dir should contain lily-git.tcl, and a symlink to git-cl  
upload, and it should be in the users's PATH.  I think the last point is  
taken care of automatically.
