    Now the only accent which still seems problematic is the accute accent. 

This is because the .aux file (strangely) uses ' as the escape character
instead of @ (or even \).  I want to fix this, but haven't done so...

The fact that accents work in node names at all is a complete accident.
I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes a syntax error at some point, 
once we support real 8-bit preaccented letters anyway.

Nevertheless, I put a new texinfo.tex onto ftp.gnu.org (etc.), which
handles more of the various accent commands in @section's and indexes
(where they really are supported) correctly.  Let me know if more bugs
show up...
