What do you mean ``so be it''? If the author has no idea and no
control on how the output will look in certain formats, what good is
Texinfo for??

You can always use @iftex, you know. Texinfo doesn't let you use the
full power of TeX; it was never its goal nor in its design.
But that's all academic. If you can show a practical suggestion (what
to produce in each supported format), then we could discuss that and
see whether it's useful.
