Well, in terms of functionality I suppose it could theoretically replace
makeinfo --html, at least.  However, my biggest technical concern with
such a thing would be saying that we will have two programs parsing
Texinfo sources, in perpetuity.  Well, three, since we already have
makeinfo and texinfo.tex.  That is just not good.

Maybe someday makeinfo could have a TeX backend, and a LaTeX backend,
and so on, that could greatly simplify the TeX support.  It's been
suggested many times.

    Are you sure it's a good idea to drop these features?

Clearly they must not be dropped now.  If we had the luxury of starting
over, many things would be done differently.
