I think the Texinfo manual should specify that menu entries should use
the normalized node names, as this is what Info in Emacs expects (see
other discussion at
http://debbugs.gnu.org/cgi/bugreport.cgi?bug=18308#1). The passage you
mention in "Node Line Requirements" is not correct for
cross-references in the generated Info file at least. Maybe it should
say something like the spaces are normalized to give the "official"
node name, and whether extra whitespace is ignored or not allowed can
be described elsewhere for each case.
