As far as I know the API is going to use the Free Software Directory as
the source of the listing of GNU IceCat add-ons. The idea being that
their API can query the Directory.

Right now we have a problem that needs solving. The problem is that
there is no serious effort to check the licenses of add-ons. As far as I
know, all projects that have listings of Mozilla add-ons rely upon the
Mozilla site for getting the licensing data for each add-on. However, we
have found that the Mozilla license info is often incorrect. So, we have
decided to try using the Free Software Directory as a place to check the
license info as well as to collect additional information about the
add-ons (and hopefully that means more information than what is listed
on the Mozilla site alone, because as we have found out, what is listed
on the Mozilla add-on page for a particular add-on is sometimes not as
useful as what is on the add-on homepage -- this might even be the
recommended version of the software itself).

Help in building momentum around this effort would be greatly
appreciated. In addition to collecting bulk listings of add-ons with
scripts, David has been organizing add-ons into smaller priority
groupings. Perhaps someone would be willing to work with David on trying
to go through some of the higher priority groupings and checking the
license info and publishing new add-ons?
