Nicola,Last night I determined that the installation of gnustep-gui was failing due to a segmentation violation in make_services.
This morning, the mailing list had a question and answer regarding Mandrake 8.1, which is what I'm running. The advice was to update from gcc 2.96 to gcc 3.
I upgraded to gcc-3.0.4 and all looks good! Thanks for taking the time to help! David
