Okay, granted the topic refers specifically to Linux, but you've opened the field here. :)

Sorry, this is my mistake. I am not focused on Linux only, I just think that most folks who (will) use GNUstep run Linux rather than anything else, but maybe this is not even true. Anyway, GNUSTEP/linux was meant as an analogy to OPENSTEP/mach and not to say it's Linux exclusive...:-)

So the problem wrt GNUstep.sh has to be solved in a generic way to support all possible systems where GNUstep is an option.

GNUstep runs on many other systems, so why limit this to RPM? Most large projects release RPM, tar.gz, and maybe .DEB. Why not provide packages for the major types of systems, and then <shameless plug> use LSPM </shameless plug> to manage the GNUstep aspect of packages.

That way, you could also provide packages for Solaris, IRIX, the BSDs, and even *gack* Windows, if need be.

I agree, and I do not think anyone wants to limit this to RPM. We already have many different packages for GNUstep. Hence the discussion is IMHO more about the various GNUstep applications which make the environment than the GNUstep libraries itself.
