There is no Linux firmware upgrade.

Sony's updater does not appear to work under Wine either, at least not 
for my external IEEE-1394 drive. Wine provides ASPI emulation support, 
but the updater doesn't look as if it is using ASPI.

Borrow a friend's Wintel machine and upgrade your firmware there.
