Nonsense. The user is not under the exclusive control of the author,
nor any control whatsoever. The software is, of course, under
substantial control of the rightsholder. The user, however, can
always stop using the program at any time, with their freedom fully
intact.
If their wallet is a bit slimmer, please call it "tuition". But I
digress: this thread is about freedom, not economics.
