Since you need to check for modes both inside the function bytecode and inside the function symbol properties, maybe not?
In the end, the average cost should depend on whether you are allowed to skip the symbol property lookup if the bytecode is already tagged (I figure you might not, but there can be different opinions on that), and which percentage of all commands are tagged.
