As I see it, "intellectual property" is an umbrella concept clumping
together unrelated things (patents, copyrights, trade secrets, brand
rights) which may or may not make sense in the context.

In my eyes, it's desperate capitalism: available land has stopped
"growing" (it did between the 13th and the 18th century, in some
pretty perverse way [1]). But capitalism wants growth, so it needs
something else to grow into.

Now you can produce virtulally (really!) unlimited amounts of videos
on Youtube [2], so there's your growth.

Until people realise that those videos aren't any worth unless there
are other people willing to watch them.

It's going to be a difficult adaptation phase for us. I don't even
know whether we'll survive that. But knowing a lot of young and
optimistic people I think I haven't the moral right to not try.
