I think we settled on 1.0 being a promising new default value for
-batch, so I've now pushed a change that makes -batch default to that.
This does change the memory profile (making batch processes use more
memory), so please give feedback on any regressions you see in real
world usage -- if it turns out to be problematic, we'll have to revert
it.
