Do note that this was a standard used by several email applications but
has not ever been called a standard (AFAICK). Email is stored
in /var/spool/mail/$USER, and some apps put extra folders in your
homedir.  Netscape or even /usr/bin/mail never did.

I think it has to do that you can use the path to open it.  elm for
example (one of the first serious email apps) can open an mbox from there
with an argument.   There is no equivalent in tla for this kind of usage
of the proposed dir.

Ehh; this does not work with what I thought the dir would contain.  I
figured temporary diffs or diffs downloaded from somewhere; but not any
originals.
Could you explain what it is that you want in the ~/{deltas} dir?
