[Gnu-arch-users] tla 1.2pre2 seems broken -- can't tla add!

After upgrading to TLA 1.2pre2, I followed the online tutorial for 
creating a new archive.  When I get to the step of adding files to my 
archive's inventory, I get the following error:

bash-2.05b$ tla inventory add Makefile
Error during call to `vu_chdir' for add (No such file or directory)
PANIC: I/O error

This really stinks.  I rather need this basic functionality to work.  If 
I can't get it to work within a reasonable (read, at most an hour) 
amount of time, I'll have to drop back to 1.1pre8 and assume 1.2 isn't 
ready for public use yet.

Any ideas on what can cause this error message, and what to do about it?
