This is how I do it.  I think designer has a mode to translate an existing 
tables to gsd but I've not messed with designer schema stuff in a long, long 
time so I don't know it's current state.  I've started coverage of the gsd 
format and usage in the gnue-common designers reference that can be found at

http://www.gnuenterprise.org/tools/common/

This doc is newer than the one in the last release.

About the only other documentation at this time is via the file

utils/xml2sql/example.gsd

from the common source code.  I will be expanding the devel guide to cover 
gnue-schema in detail after I can a few more of the basic documentation 
covered.
