I vote for leaving this as is.

1)Are there peoplese that run from a tarball and forget/fail to enable GNUmed 
Default ?

2) In the RPM-Packages I simply include a patch which enables the profile . 
Users will get it enabled.

3) In the Windows packages I ship GNUmed Default enabled.

One could argue that you could provide Local Default commented out so in case 
of a crash it can be enabled.
